About The Position

AECOM is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern to be based in Roanoke, VA. This position is expected to begin Summer 2026. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: Performs a variety of assignments designed to develop professional work knowledge and abilities, requiring application of standard techniques, procedures and criteria in carrying out tasks. Limited exercise of judgment is required on details of work and in making preliminary selections and adaptations of science alternatives. Learn the preparation of architectural/engineering drawings related to Mechanical (HVAC/Plumbing) engineering systems for commercial and governmental facilities. Help to deliver complete, accurate, and coordinated project design assignments within time and budget parameters while satisfying client contractual obligations. Perform field investigations for incorporation of existing conditions into construction documents. Perform construction administration duties, such as shop drawing review. Work within a project team environment.

Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field and must have completed at least 1 year of study. Candidates who have recently graduated with a Bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with the Master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions. Recent graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous internship experience is a plus.
  • Experience with Revit is a plus.
