We are searching for a Mechanical Engineering Designer to join our Mechanical and Electrical Design Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL’s purpose is to research and develop innovative solutions to challenging scientific, engineering, and technology problems in support of the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). In this role, you will utilize skill sets consisting of moderately complex level abilities relative to concepts, practices, and procedures of Drafting and 3-D Modeling. ARL is an authorized DoD SkillBridge partner and welcomes all transitioning military members to apply. You will: Assist research engineering programs needing mechanical design support through collaboration with R&D Engineers and Engineering Support Specialists Participate in meetings and design reviews Collaborate to address design, material, and component needs; assist in the resolution of issues Use accepted standards, methods, and techniques to create intermediate 3D solid models for fabricated parts, assemblies, and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) parts Create 2D detail drawings for intermediate fabrication parts/assemblies using accepted standards, methods and techniques; may also create schematic/bills of material (BOM) documents Perform Service Center tasks related to documentation control, copying, archiving (.stp and .x_t), and database entry Utilize ARL’s Project Lifecycle Management (PLM) software (Teamcenter) to properly archive and perform configuration management of all design documentation Maintain all required compliance training related to business systems, safety, and security Build on your knowledge of design software features, techniques, standards, and specifications (particularly ASME Y 14.5) Provide work status updates to senior personnel and engineering staff
