About The Position

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide. Job Summary: Assists in providing system and components design, investigation, experimentation, analysis, documentation, and reporting. Work may result in new or improved systems, products, devices, components, and processes. Assists in performing aspects of engineering projects from planning through implementation. Works with assistance from more experienced co-workers. Primary focus of this position is learning the professional responsibilities of a mechanical engineer.

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering in-progress with minimum of 2 years completed towards degree.

Responsibilities

  • With assistance from other mechanical engineers, analyzes research data and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal for manufacturability.
  • Assisting and/or learning about test equipment designs and how to write test procedures to appropriately verify that all production assemblies meet Fike specifications.
  • Confers with research engineers, sales, quality, and manufacturing to clarify and/or resolve problems
  • Assists with preparation of product or system layout drawings including details and schematics.
  • Assists with maintaining and modifying current products to meet customer needs.
  • Assists in coordinating activities with appropriate approval agencies to ensure compliance of new products with industry standards.
  • May assist with coordination of completion of all documentation required to produce new products including creation of assembly drawings, creation of bills of materials and routing in the Fike business system, and any other documentation required.
  • May evaluate engineering test results for possible application to development of systems or other uses.
  • Confers with research and other engineering, quality, manufacturing, and sales personnel and may prepare design modifications as required.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering design tasks.
  • Studies ASME, ANSI, MIL, AISI, IFI, NACE, API, AWS and NFPA standards. Applies these standards as appropriate to new designs.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.
  • Provides a formal presentation to executive management at the end of the defined Co-Op term detailing accomplishments, lessons learned, and opportunities for improvement of the Mechanical Engineering Co-Op program.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
