Role and Responsibilities Key Tech is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our project teams. Be a member of interdisciplinary engineering and product development teams composed of industrial designers, technicians, electrical engineers, computer engineers, and other mechanical engineers, to de-risk technologies, design medical devices, and evaluate their performance Participate actively in mechanical engineering, including mechanical design of devices and test fixtures, instrument and fixture testing/troubleshooting, technical review, and preparation and delivery of client presentations Provide level of effort estimates for mechanical engineering tasks to support Project Managers in developing schedules and budgets Participate in continual development/improvement of internal mechanical engineering processes Participate in prospective client meetings and proposal content generation Travel to client sites across the US (an average a few times per year) On-site work at Key Tech’s office in Baltimore at least 3 days per week, with flexibility to work from home up to 2 days per week (project depending)

Requirements

  • BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3-5 years of experience in mechanical design
  • Experience in detailed mechanical design of plastic and metal parts, as well as overall complex mechanism design
  • Experience with mechanical drawing creation and tolerance stack-ups
  • Strong verbal and written technical communication
  • Technical experience includes 3D modeling, theoretical analysis and calculations, and system testing and debugging
  • Experience with assembly prototyping, building, and prototype part sourcing
  • Proven track record of effectively managing and communicating task status and schedule
  • Experience working on an interdisciplinary engineering/design team
  • Experience interfacing with and presenting technical topics to stakeholders, clients, or management

Nice To Haves

  • Majority of years of experience are in product development
  • Technical design experience with thermal, fluidic, optical, static, and dynamic systems
  • Complex system design incorporating electrical and electromechanical components, including motors, linear actuators, sensors, pumps, and valves
  • Experience with numerical simulation of complex systems (e.g. Python/MATLAB/Octave/etc.) as well as finite element analysis (e.g. SolidWorks Simulation, Ansys, etc.)
  • Experience with design for manufacturing and assembly, including transitioning designs to production
  • Experience writing design history file documentation, including technical design descriptions, bill of materials, etc.
  • Experience in medical device development and designing for compliance with medical device and diagnostic device safety regulations (e.g., IEC 60601/61010)
  • Experience with product verification and/or validation, including planning, writing, and executing verification test protocols
  • Desire to participate in training/mentoring other engineers
  • Experience supporting the development of engineering work proposals, including developing scopes of work and estimating project cost
