Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering (or related technical field) or equivalent experience/combined education
  • Expertise with thermal analysis methods and processes (e.g. heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, classical hand calculations)
  • Expertise with finite difference and/or finite element numerical solution tools (e.g., Thermal Desktop, SINDA, NX Thermal)
  • Active Top Secret or SCI Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • 15+ years of relevant professional experience in thermal analysis of space structures
  • Experience with analysis and test of thermal environments (e.g., thermal vacuum, thermal cycling, thermal balance)
  • Experience with engineering level computer programming (e.g. Matlab)
  • Experience with test engineering, instrumentation, data collection, and/or test reports
  • Ability and desire to assume ownership of tasks and quickly and efficiently drive to closure
  • Willingness to mentor and develop junior engineers
  • Excellent written and verbal technical communication skills
  • Ability to occasionally support 24/7 activities

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team of 3-4 thermal engineers by providing technical oversight, daily tasking, mentoring, and training
  • Perform detailed thermal design and analysis on spacecraft components and the entire spacecraft thermal system
  • Provide technical memos and recommendations to support peer and customer reviews
  • Present design and analysis data to the spacecraft design/engineering team, customer technical representatives, and Program Office personnel at technical interchange meetings and formal design reviews
  • Provide review, interpretation, flow-down, and implementation of program requirements
  • Provide test support for component-level and system-level thermal tests
