Mechanical Engineer, Product Development

KnightscopeSunnyvale, CA
$140,000 - $180,000Onsite

About The Position

Knightscope is seeking a mid-level Mechanical Engineer to join our product development team and support a new hardware program. In this role, you will own mechanical design, component integration, and enclosure development for a wearable technology product from early prototype through production readiness. You will work cross-functionally with electrical, software, and systems engineers in a fast-paced, gate-driven product development environment and play a critical role in shaping a first-of-its-kind platform. The role is an ownership-driven position within a multidisciplinary program team, requiring a hands-on engineer who is comfortable operating in ambiguity and driving decisions across mechanical, electrical, and software boundaries. You will be expected to make thoughtful tradeoffs and carry designs from early concept and prototyping through to production. This individual will own the full mechanical scope of a new wearable hardware product—including component evaluation, enclosure design, system integration, thermal management, and test support. The ideal candidate has experience developing real-world products that integrate electronics into physical systems, with familiarity in both rigid and soft goods design considerations. You move quickly from CAD to prototype, adapt easily as the design space evolves, and thrive in environments where not everything is fully defined. Please include the Disney character that best describes you in your resume—and make sure to ask your interviewers the same.

Requirements

  • S or M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 3–5 years of experience in product development, with demonstrated ownership of electromechanical hardware programs from concept through production.
  • Experience taking at least one hardware product from concept through production.
  • Experience with soft goods, wearables, or body-worn products
  • Experience designing mechanical systems that integrate electronics
  • Proficiency in CAD tools (Solidworks, Fusion360)
  • Familiarity with thermal design and management in compact, sealed enclosures
  • Hands-on prototyping experience; comfortable working in a fast-paced, early-stage program environment with ambiguous and incomplete requirements and aggressive milestones,
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills; ability to work effectively with electrical, software, and systems engineering teams
  • Have a roll-up-the-sleeves, can-do attitude

Responsibilities

  • Drive mechanical design and integration for the H1 wearable platform across all phases of product development
  • Evaluate and integrate electrical components into wearable configurations.
  • Identify and resolve thermal constraints within a compact, body-worn form factor.
  • Develop enclosure, mounting, and packaging solutions for electronic components, including compute, sensors, and power systems
  • Identify and manage thermal, structural, and ergonomic constraints in a compact, body-worn system
  • Collaborate closely with electrical, software, and system engineering teams to resolve cross-functional tradeoffs
  • Support development of test plans, fixtures, and validation activities to ensure product performance and reliability
  • Work with external partners and vendors as needed to support design and manufacturing
  • Contribute to establishing scalable product development processes and best practices
