About The Position

Mechanical Engineering leads and delivers the development of innovative and compliant mechanical design solutions, as well as cross-functional interfaces for desktop, portable and server computer systems and peripherals. Our team conducts the analysis, feasibility studies and testing of mechanical products, instruments, subassemblies and packaging for new and existing products – and then oversees the introduction of design changes to the manufacturing organizations. What you’ll achieve We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Engineer 2 to join our laptop product development team. As a Mechanical Engineer 2, you will contribute to the mechanical architecture, design and development of Dell’s next-generation laptops. This is an opportunity to work cross-functionally with industrial designers, electrical engineers, product managers, and manufacturing teams to deliver world-class computing devices.

Requirements

  • 3+ years’ experience in a mechanical engineering role or equivalent skill, preferably in electronics industry; must include hands-on experience with prototype development and lab testing
  • Solid understanding of mechanical drawings and skilled with 3D CAD modeling utilizing Creo; familiarity with simulation tools e.g. Ansys, FloTherm
  • Experience with thermal solutions, electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding and structural analysis
  • Understanding of materials, tolerance analysis and manufacturing processes (experience working with offshore manufacturing partners helpful)
  • Strong communication and project management skills with ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment

  • Bachelor’s in mechanical engineering
  • Knowledge of hinge design, display integration and/or keyboard mechanisms

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the mechanical architecture and design of laptop systems (concept to development), focusing on form factor innovation, thermal management, structural integrity, prototyping, testing and manufacturability
  • Develop Computer Aided Design (CAD) models and detailed drawings of mechanical components and assemblies using Creo; define and optimize system layouts, including board placement, component stacking and cooling strategies
  • Drive thermal, structural, and reliability analysis to validate design choices
  • Support prototype builds, testing, and validation, ensuring designs meet performance, cost, and quality targets; address design challenges and lead root cause analysis for mechanical issues
  • Collaborate with Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Procurement, Marketing, Quality, Services and Manufacturing teams to ensure seamless integration across disciplines; partner with Suppliers/Original Design Manufacturers (ODM’s) to review Design for Manufacturability and tooling requirements
