About The Position

We are seeking a motivated and detail‑oriented Mechanical Engineer Intern to support the design, development, testing, and integration of mechanical systems and components. This role is ideal for a student who is passionate about applying engineering principles to solve real‑world technical challenges while gaining hands‑on experience in a collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Foundational knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, statics/dynamics, and manufacturing processes.
  • Familiarity with basic mechanical test equipment and hands‑on prototyping.
  • Coursework or project experience with CAD/analysis tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, Inventor, ANSYS, MATLAB, or similar).
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and seek feedback proactively.
  • Ability to attain a Secret clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior internship or project experience working on real‑world mechanical systems or hardware development.
  • Existing Secret Clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and analysis of mechanical components, assemblies, and mechanisms.
  • Support testing, evaluation, and validation of mechanical systems and prototypes.
  • Create and update 3D models, engineering drawings, and technical documentation.
  • Perform data collection, measurement, and analysis using mechanical test equipment such as calipers, strain gauges, force/torque instruments, and environmental test setups.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including electrical, software, and systems engineering.
  • Help develop prototypes, mechanical fixtures, and test setups.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute ideas to improve reliability, performance, and manufacturability.
  • Support failure analysis and root‑cause investigations on mechanical components and assemblies.

  • Salary at MAG Aerospace is determined by various factors including but not limited to location, the particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements.
  • The estimated hourly rate range for this role is $20/hr to $30/hr.
