Were expanding our capabilities, our geography, and our teamand now is an exciting time to join us. We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer II to join our Columbus, OH office. In this role, you will assist and support senior engineers in designing mechanical and plumbing systems across a wide range of building types and industry sectors. You will partner closely with field staff, General Contractors, Architects, and Engineers to ensure that mechanical and plumbing designs are executed accurately, meet specifications, and maintain compliance throughout construction. You will also establish relationships with external partners, suppliers, and regulatory agencies to support business objectives, as well as mentor other professionals within the Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) department to elevate design procedures within the MEP group and support high-visibility projects from concept through final construction documentation.. Project types include: Healthcare, Federal, Justice, K12, Higher Education, Corporate Commercial, Pharmacy, Retail, Multifamily & Assisted Living, Hospitality, Cultural & Historic, Data Centers, Industrial, Residential, and Military/DoD facilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited engineering program.
  • A minimum of 7 years experience in mechanical and plumbing design.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems such as HVAC/Hydronics/Controls and plumbing systems such as Domestic Water/Sanitary/Venting is required; knowledge of Medical Gas and Fire Suppression is a plus but not required.
  • Required systems and software expertise include Autodesk products (i.e. AutoCAD and Revit), load calculation software such as Trane Trace, and/or similar design software applications.
  • Familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Review, understand, and apply local, state and federal codes and standards related to the design and construction of project facilities.
  • Must be able to follow and properly apply market specific guidelines, the practices and policies of the associated local and building codes, discipline, divisions and firm.
  • Proficient with the most current version of AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360 and Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC).
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and design independently with minimal supervision on projects from the beginning to the end.
  • Ability to manage deadline-driven workload and work on multiple projects.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.
  • Professional credentials (e.g., CDP, LEED, WELL) are preferred but not required.
  • Ability to develop written specifications in AIA MasterSpec and SpecsIntact formats is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design complicated and various types of mechanical and plumbing systems utilized within the respective markets listed above.
  • Assist field staff, General Contractors, Architects, and Engineers to ensure compliance with specifications and design during construction.
  • Create and evolve system designs from concept to final construction document phase.
  • Perform analyses and apply problem solving techniques to develop creative, innovative solutions.
  • Perform a variety of complicated tasks and critical thinking.
  • Mentor other professionals within the MEP department.
