Requirements

  • Post-Secondary education in Engineering, specializing in Mechanical Design or equivalent (BSME degree is preferred)
  • 3+ years experience in solid modeling (Solidworks is preferred) in industrial automation with the proven ability to design and detail machined and fabricated parts to ANSI standards.
  • Must have a valid passport and driver’s license, as well as the ability to travel to customer sites both locally and internationally
  • Solving practical problems with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists
  • Effectively presenting information to Samuel Automation employees and customers
  • Working at advanced levels of design complexity
  • Proficiently able to use SolidWorks and current office computer software
  • Creatively visualizing in 3 dimensions, have a solid mechanical aptitude and thrive in an agile environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in the English language
  • Works without detailed supervision, but within clear guidelines, defined standards and specifications. Difficult, complex or unusual matters are referred to more senior authority
  • May guide and monitor the work of other staff working on a project basis
  • Provides input and makes recommendations to management in areas of improvement

Responsibilities

  • Create custom automated equipment designs to contract specifications and applicable design standards while meeting material budget requirement
  • Perform engineering calculations with respect to strength of materials, speeds, horsepower, temperature, pressure, force, etc. as related to machine and tool designs.
  • Analyzes drawings, and specifications to determine shape, dimensions, hardness etc. in the development of equipment, processes and products.
  • Examine feasibility of using one or more machines to carry out sequential operations.
  • Provide technical direction and support to Machine Builders and Technicians throughout the debugging phase
  • Mentor junior designers
  • Work with engineering and project managers to report status, raise issues, and assist where able.
  • Participates in regular project status updates with project team and customers
