Mechanical Engineer II (Job 1283)

DLHSan Diego, CA
5h$95,000 - $130,000

About The Position

Mechanical engineers research, develop, design, manufacture, and test tools, engines, machines, and other mechanical devices. They work on power-producing machines such as electric generators, internal combustion engines, and steam and gas turbines. They also develop power-using machines such as refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, machine tools, material handling systems, elevators and escalators, industrial production equipment, and robots used in manufacturing. Mechanical engineers also design tools that other engineers need for their work. Mechanical engineers rely on computers to assist them in efficiently performing computations, and by permitting the modeling and simulation of new designs as well as facilitating changes to existing designs. Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM) are used for design data processing and for turning the design into a product

Requirements

  • Bachelor's level degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 3 years of mechanical engineering of professional naval engineering experience.
  • Active Secret Clearance walking through the door. Preferred Top Secret eligibility.

Responsibilities

  • Perform Computer-Aided Design of engineering products and systems.
  • Utilize design software to develop 2D drawings and 3D models of parts and systems.
  • Utilize Computer Aided Engineering tools to develop virtual models, physics-based simulations, animate functions and assembly, and create elements that contribute to Technical Data Packages.
  • Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T), statistical and worst-case stack up analysis to all designs.
  • Reverse engineer obsolete products by using precision measurement tools, laser systems, and coordinate measuring machines.
  • Analyze thermal systems and provide calculations of cooling capacity requirements, recommendations for thermal improvements, and validations of design. Thermal analysis shall be simulated with Finite Element analysis and verified with analytical calculations.
  • Create Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) models of thermal steady state and non-steady state fluid systems.
  • Analyze the shock and vibration response of mechanical systems using Computer-Aided Engineering. All material subjected to dynamic stresses shall be simulated with Computer Aided Engineering and accompanied by analytical calculations.
  • Design material with Design for Manufacture (DFM) or Design for Additive Manufacturing. Tolerance stack-up of mechanical assemblies shall be verified with Computer-Aided Engineering
  • Calculate system payloads and center of gravity calculations of mechanical assemblies.
  • Develop electro-mechanical robotic systems with high reliability. All electro-mechanical assemblies shall be designed, simulated, and animated prior to prototyping.
  • Develop qualification plans for Advanced Manufactured parts.
