The Materials Engineering Department, which functions within the Mechanical Products Team, is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team. This position will offer a qualified candidate the opportunity to perform mechanical testing and designing of fixtures to support development, design and failure analysis activities associated with a wide range of product applications. Work will require critical thinking to solve challenging problems and careful attention to detail on procedures, testing, analysis, and documentation. Collaboration with design, engineers, material engineers and subject matter experts from various disciplines is required. Candidate must be able to manage and coordinate a wide variety of tasks simultaneously within schedule requirements. This candidate will become part of a multi-disciplined team. Requirements

• Typically requires a Bachelor in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. In absence of a degree, 6+ years of experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
• Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date.​ U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance​
• Experience in Instron or MTS load frames
• Due to the physical nature of the work, qualified candidates must also be able to lift, up to 28lbs

Nice To Haves

• Fundamental principles of Mechanical Engineering with comprehensive knowledge in mechanics of materials
• Hands-on mechanically inclined problem solver
• Familiarity with stress/structural analysis
• Proficiency with instrumentation and data acquisition equipment
• Experience with LabView, MatLAB, and PTC Creo
• Understanding of ASTM test methods for mechanical testing
• Experience with general material testing/analysis using laboratory equipment
• Ability to write concise technical reports summarizing analyses
• Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Strong communication, interpersonal, planning and time management skills
• ABET is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Responsibilities

• Conducting hands on mechanical testing using a variety of laboratory techniques to determine material properties and design limitations
• Developing test plans and test setups for unique hardware configurations
• Assessing materials based on conformance to specifications
• Assessing parts and hardware relative to structural analyses and conformance to design requirements
• Collaborating with a multi-disciplined team
• Work will require careful attention to detail
• Managing and coordinating a wide variety of analysis tasks within schedule requirements
