About The Position

At IPS, we are global leaders in developing innovative solutions for the consulting, architecture, engineering, project controls, procurement, construction management, and CQV of technically complex facilities, primarily in the life sciences industry. We are looking for a dedicated Mechanical Engineer I to join our talented team at any of our U.S. office locations (MA, NJ, PA, MD, NC, KS, and CA).

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited four-year College or University.
  • Completion of the Engineering-in-Training (Fundamentals of Engineering) exam is encouraged.
  • General knowledge of system design.
  • Must be able to stand, sit, and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Must possess the ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as required.
  • Must be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb ladders as necessary.
  • Must be able to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, which may include exposure to varying working conditions.
  • Must be able to adhere to strict cleanroom gowning protocol.
  • This position will have 5-20% travel, or as required by the assigned project.
  • You may be assigned to a client site for an extended period.
  • Overnight travel or staying in the city of the Client’s location is possible, depending on the assignment.

  • You will visit Client sites and will be required to adhere to stated safety rules.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must have the ability to travel and commute on a daily or routine basis.
  • This position is a safety-sensitive position.
  • The employee is designated for field work and attends activities at client sites where they work in construction, process, packaging, manufacturing, research, or other "non-administrative" areas.
  • All interviews are conducted either in person or virtually, with video required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineers and designers on the design of mechanical (HVAC) systems, including but not limited to air distribution ductwork systems, hot water, chilled water, and condenser water pumping and piping systems, steam and condensate piping systems, central plants, air handling systems, dehumidification systems, automatic control systems and ancillary heat transfer systems for pharmaceutical, biotech, and life science facilities.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering and energy savings calculations, including IESVE, Carrier HAP, and eQUEST.
  • Assists the Project Lead with design computations and quantity estimates, and develops probable construction cost estimates.
  • Uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to prepare engineering and design documents.
  • Assists with the preparation of reports, specifications, plans, and supports construction for projects.
  • Sets up views/sheets within Revit or AutoCAD for use on a project, utilizing the established naming convention and drawing list prepared by the Project Lead.
  • Selects equipment based on recommendations of the Project Lead and fills out equipment schedules.
  • Creates or modifies drawings based on markups generated by others.
  • Research design options and document findings for the Project Lead.
  • Keeps the Project Lead informed of workload and any changes in project scope or additional services.
  • Researches code issues and communicates with other disciplines.
  • Ensures that drawings and designs follow company quality, production, and design standards.
  • Makes calculations, using engineering formulas and skills for design such as duct sizing and pressure drop calculations, air balance calculations, and equipment sizing.
  • Creates specialized drawings, such as operations matrices, elevations, details, and diagrams.
  • Performs special projects and tasks as assigned.
