Position Summary As a Mechanical Engineer at STERIS, you will perform various engineering assignments including drawing mechanical parts in SolidWorks, developing repair capabilities, and solving problems seen throughout the company with a focus on reverse engineering and sustainability. What You'll do as a Mechanical Engineer Develop, source and evaluate prototype designs. Conduct failure analysis and identify critical components. Specify system components that conform to engineering design and performance specifications Design tooling, jigs and fixtures. Perform first article and prototype inspections. Conduct technical presentations to medical professionals and IMS employees. Coordinate with purchasing and the production floor to find suppliers and vendors. Create part numbers for components and assemblies for purchasing, inventory control, and factory use. Operate effectively in a team setting

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (BS) from an accredited four-year college or university; and up to 2-5 years of experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience drawing mechanical solid models, drawing sheets and assemblies preferably in SolidWorks
  • Experience with various metrology equipment including calipers, pin gages, height gages, etc.
  • Must have the ability to build prototypes as well as reverse engineer mechanical parts.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems and interaction with overall electrical sub-systems
  • Working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

Nice To Haves

  • Preferred to have at least 2 years of experience in a regulated industry (medical preferred).
  • Materials engineering, metallography, and working with polymers, and plastics.
  • Machining processes and techniques, ability to solder and handle small delicate parts is essential.
