About The Position

Michael Baker is seeking a Mechanical Engineer with expertise in designing mechanical systems. As a Designer of Record (DOR), you will be responsible for creating complex mechanical HVAC and piping system design drawings for conceptual, intermediate, and final construction phases. You will also be instrumental in building and maintaining key relationships with team members, clients, subcontractors, and vendors. Additional responsibilities include: Lead and/or contribute to the mechanical engineering design efforts on multiple projects. Support business development efforts by utilizing mechanical design experience. Clearly convey information to internal and external clients. Adhere to budget and schedule of projects. Assist with defining scope of work and man-hour estimates. Complete or oversee junior staff’s completion of mechanical load and design calculations. Use computer-assisted engineering and design software (Revit, Trane Trace, etc.) to perform engineering tasks. Develop and author project specifications. Develop and author design reports, field conditions assessments, and presentations for dissemination to internal and external clients. Prepare construction cost estimates and review construction cost estimates prepared by others. Research code, design, and detailed project-specific requirements to ensure systems conform to engineering design and client specifications. Work with design-build construction partners to provide possible redesign, substitution of materials, or rearrangement of systems for cost-saving measures. Create project work plans to execute mechanical designs with multiple support staff. Build proposals for new work, as needed. Evaluate field installations, review compliance, and recommend modifications. Perform quality control checks of work performed by others. Propose methods for improving performance for development, standardization, and quality control. Use a professional level of written and oral communication skills. Occasional travel may be required. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with clients, customers, and partners. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Strong track record of client satisfaction and stellar quality assurance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering or Architectural Engineering-Mechanical Option (ABET Accredited)
  • Licensed Professional Engineer
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in private and/or public sector construction industry
  • U.S. Citizen
  • Solid experience with applicable software including Revit, AutoCAD, and Trane Trace
  • Proficient computer skills utilizing the Microsoft Office Suite

Nice To Haves

  • It would be a plus if you have experience engineering both HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • It would be a plus if you have knowledge of the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Unified Facilities Guided Specifications (UFGS).
  • It would be a plus if you have LEED accreditation.
