About The Position

Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire in Orlando, Florida is seeking an Entry-level Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design, fabrication, and procurement activities associated with a challenging research/development work environment in the IT&E Structural & Environmental Operations Labs. What You Will Be Doing As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the following detail: Perform conceptual detailed designs, drawing revisions/releases, and engineering change notices for static and dynamic test fixtures/tooling and structural test setups and layouts. Ability to generate bill of materials, source vendors, and submit purchase requests for the procurement needed to build up test hardware/fixtures/setups. Need ability to perform hand- and computer-aided stress calculations and FEA analysis in the design maturing process. Provide scheduling and prioritization of designs through the various machine shops onsite to meet customer demands and commitments. Work with and guide mechanical and electrical technicians in the preparation of test setups or vibe stations to execute test series efficiently, and document, capture data, and provide reliable data to internal customers. Candidate should have an expectation that they will support additional mechanical support for fixture, tooling, and test layout supporting structural load testing in our Static and Dynamic Areas of the Structural & Environmental Test Laboratory. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Software including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • US Citizen with the ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong solid-modeling experience utilizing 3D CAD solid modelling software suites.
  • Ability to travel to support various field support activities.
  • Knowledge of mechanical drawing standards and experience with detail, assembly, and installation type 2D drawings.
  • Knowledge in manufacturing, manufacturing processes and techniques.
  • An understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing theory and application techniques for part fabrication and assembly fitment.
  • Advanced solid modeling and FEA analysis skills.
  • Experience working in structural and environmental test lab environments and have familiarity with different test equipment (HPU, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, thermal chambers, electro-dynamic shakers, drop-shock tables).
  • Instrumentation knowledge and experience (accelerometers, string potentiometers, thermocouples, strain gages, pressure transducers, etc.).
  • Data acquisition experience and application.
