About The Position

Saratech is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to collaborate with cross-functional and production teams to resolve quality and reliability issues, analyze data, and define corrective and preventive actions that improve processes, reduce scrap, and support existing products in both manufacturing and field environments. This role develops and maintains product specifications, evaluates design and performance tradeoffs, and applies standard engineering practices and tools (including Lean, Six Sigma, and structured continuous-improvement methodologies) to enhance reliability, manufacturability, cost effectiveness, and overall customer value. This is a full-time position or part-time leading to full-time position located at our corporate headquarters in Mission Viejo, CA and/or discussed during interview.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in an engineering or scientific technical discipline, or a Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
  • Typically requires 2-3 years of related professional engineering experience.
  • Proficient with engineering design and analysis tools, such as CAD or modeling systems, and standard engineering software packages.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical or hydraulic engineering principles, product functionality, industry practices, and applicable regulations.
  • General awareness of related engineering and technical disciplines.
  • Ability to learn and apply specialized software tools or programming languages, as required.
  • Ability to work with general project objectives and team goals, applying sound judgment in selecting appropriate methods and procedures.
  • Strong collaboration skills and the ability to work effectively in cross-functional team environments.
  • Clear and precise written and verbal communication skills, with responsiveness to technical inquiries from engineering and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed product specifications by analyzing performance requirements and customer needs. Investigate design factors including function, materials, performance, interchangeability, cost, operational efficiency, and contractual requirements.
  • Perform feasibility studies and design trade studies using standard analytical methods; recommend technically sound solutions for review and implementation.
  • Interpret and validate test results to ensure accuracy, precision, and conformance to product qualification procedures, safety standards, and reliability requirements.
  • Utilize predictive models and analytical tools, as appropriate, to simulate and verify design concepts.
  • Create, maintain, and control specifications, test procedures, reports, and technical documentation, ensuring product changes are captured in a traceable and controlled manner.
  • Support risk management activities, including FMEAs, and demonstrate compliance during internal and external audits through clear technical documentation and rationale.
  • Lead more complex product and process investigations that arise in manufacturing or in the field, applying structured problem-solving methods (e.g., 5 Whys, fishbone diagrams, fault tree analysis) to identify true root causes.
  • Define and help implement robust corrective and preventive actions, providing advanced technical support to internal teams and, when appropriate, engaging directly with customers on technical topics.
  • Review product specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, form, fit, function, and compliance with applicable standards and procedures.
  • Identify design errors, omissions, and deficiencies; recommend engineering changes, revisions, and improvements to engineering leadership or project teams.
  • Share knowledge and best practices to strengthen engineering capability, informally mentoring engineers, co-ops, and technicians on tools, methods, and standards.
  • Serve as a key engineering representative on cross-functional teams, clearly communicating technical status, risks, and options, and supporting alignment on sustaining priorities and solutions.
