About The Position

As a Mechanical Engineer 2 (2nd Shift) at ULA's production facility in Decatur, AL, key responsibilities include: Designing and implementing manufacturing processes, procedures, and planning for multiple build items in support of other assembly areas in the factory. Designing sequence of operations and specific procedures for hardware in work center. Inspecting performance of machinery, equipment, and tools to verify their efficiency. Investigates and initiates corrective action or problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality. Providing guidance to engineering regarding design concepts and specification requirements to best utilize equipment and manufacturing techniques. Ensuring processes and procedures are in compliance with regulations. Collaborating with design engineers to ensure all products meet design requirements and can be manufactured efficiently. Working with quality engineering and production operations to initiate corrective action of problems and deficiencies to ensure product quality. Troubleshooting to resolve manufacturing issues and keep production on schedule. Work closely with technicians during the build process and supports process improvements. Identifying and driving continuous improvement opportunities to completion. Working collaboratively with multiple functions within the organization to perform job duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related technical field from an accredited college or university.
  • Previous exposure to reading blueprints.
  • Understanding of geometrical, dimensioning, and tolerancing.
  • Attention to detail and good documentation of observations/findings.
  • Ability to work extended hours and/or weekends along with off shifts, as necessary to support testing and production delivery activities
  • Must be able to work 2nd shift.
  • Minimum of 2 years of related work experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with aerospace hardware, working with cross-functional work groups, and presenting to external customers.
  • Exposure to manufacturing techniques and working with an hourly workforce.
  • Experience with ERP systems (Enterprise Resource Planning), preferably SAP.
