The Collins Aerospace Strategic Defense Solutions group is seeking a highly motivated, entry level Mechanical Engineer to join our team onsite in Sterling, VA! Our Mechanical Engineers participate in the development, modification, integration, and testing of cutting-edge aircraft and ground vehicle training simulators for military and commercial applications. Our devices range in complexity from simple desktop trainers to high-fidelity full flight training systems. You will work on both clean-sheet and design reuse projects, creating mechanical equipment, electronics cabinets, and custom support structures and enclosures. Requirements

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 12 months or less of relevant professional work experience (excluding internships).
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM), particularly in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Possession of an active U.S. government issued Secret or Top-Secret clearance.
  • Familiarity with computer aided design (CAD) modeling software, preferably SolidWorks.
  • Familiarity with finite element analysis (FEA) software.

Responsibilities

  • You will participate in design and development activities, including implementation of specifications and development of performance or maintenance requirements.
  • You will embrace and follow engineering design processes to contribute to the development of components, parts, subassemblies, and assemblies.
  • You will perform analyses (structural, thermal, tolerance etc.) to evaluate and ensure design function, cost effectiveness, and requirements adherence.
  • You will collaborate with designers and drafters to create, modify, and release documentation including both part and assembly drawings.
  • You will participate in the execution and analysis of testing for systems, subsystems, and components.
  • You will evaluate hardware builds/installations and recommend design modifications.
