About The Position

Outpost Technologies is seeking a talented Mechanical Engineer to develop aerospace and defense systems. The Candidate will initially develop fluid-mechanical and control system design products for numerous aerospace and defense customers. The Candidate will help create detailed designs, help present at milestone reviews, attend program meetings, and produce high-quality drawing products. The candidate will be responsible for learning and applying sound mechanical engineering and design principles in the development of machined, structural, fabricated, sheet metal, and fluid control components. The candidate will also be responsible for Bill of Material development, requiring clear communication with vendors. The Candidate’s designs will require learning and refining sound engineering processes, such as design for manufacturing, drawing production, & PDM/PLM/configuration management. The Candidate must also learn to report technical, schedule, and budgetary risk to management. Communication skills are strongly desired. The Candidate must be self-motivated and produce excellent work that exceeds customer expectations. The Candidate must always present a professional demeanor while representing Outpost Technologies to customers and stakeholders. This is a hands-on position and past performance or aptitude for integration and test operations are highly desirable. The posted compensation reflects the anticipated salary range for this position. Actual pay will be determined by a variety of factors including experience, education, certifications, and alignment with internal compensation structures specific to government contracting requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent degree from an ABET-accredited university.
  • 0-5 years of Mechanical Engineering experience. Graduate degrees, military service, or technical accreditations/certifications may be substituted for experience years where applicable.
  • Introductory-level experience with CAD or drafting software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project or similar scheduling tools).
  • Strong organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritize competing demands, and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail with commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work products.
  • Professional demeanor and ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Resident of or be willing to relocate to the Huntsville - North Alabama Area.
  • Up to 10% Travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Solidworks MCAD software package.
  • Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Familiarity with the aerospace and defense systems.
  • Understanding of fluid systems design.
  • Electromechanical systems experience.
  • Controller design, programming, software development, or development kit experience.
  • Finite Element Modeling software packages.
  • Prototyping and Manufacturing Technologies.
  • Knowledge of DoW organizations.
  • Demonstrated initiative in previous roles with examples of proactively identifying problems, proposing solutions, or improving processes.
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience producing formal documentation, technical reports, or standard operating procedures.
  • Flexibility and adaptability with demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced, changing environments.
