About The Position

Viavi Solutions Inc. is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical/DVT Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the design, testing, and validation of cutting-edge optical and network testing equipment. The successful candidate will contribute to various stages of the product development lifecycle, supporting both mechanical design and design verification testing activities.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical design principles, materials science, and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • A genuine interest in optical and network test solutions.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, AutoCAD) is a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with basic lab equipment (e.g., multimeters, oscilloscopes, hand tools) is desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the mechanical design and analysis of product components, enclosures, and assemblies using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo).
  • Conduct hands-on design verification testing (DVT) on new product prototypes, including functional, environmental, and reliability testing.
  • Document test procedures, collect and analyze test data, and generate detailed test reports.
  • Support the fabrication and assembly of mechanical prototypes and test fixtures.
  • Collaborate with senior engineers to troubleshoot and resolve design and test-related issues.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback on mechanical designs.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of engineering documentation, including bills of material (BOMs), and assembly instructions.
  • Learn and apply industry best practices for mechanical design and DVT processes.
