About The Position

This Mechanical Drafter position participates in and may lead modeling and detailing projects of moderate to high complexity. Creates detailed drawings in 3D models, assemblies, and 2D drawings of intermediate to high complexity using 3D CAD Software tools (SolidWorks). This drafter works within a project team—under the leadership of engineers, technicians and/or project managers. The drafter is expected to work and communicate well with other team members and leadership as assigned to meet the goals of the project, the department and the company.

Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree and no experience required OR In lieu of degree, 4 years of experience in drafting or related drafting role is required
Experience in regulated industries preferred, with familiarity in compliance standards, documentation controls, and quality systems.
Experience with PDM/PLM systems preferred, including product data management, change control, and documentation workflows.

Ability to work cross-functionally allowing for better collaboration and communication when working across teams to achieve shared objectives

Intermediate: apply skills independently in most situations; handle moderately complex tasks with occasional guidance
Demonstrated ability to identify problems, make recommendations, work effectively and flexibly in a team environment to resolve said problems while considering the impact on the rest of the company.
Proficient with the operation of SolidWorks to a level where they can create intermediate to complex technical drawings under the direction of Engineers and senior drafters.
Strong understanding of (GD&T) nomenclature and conventional symbols of structural, mechanical and engineering drawings and how to incorporate in drawings.

Responsibilities

Perform all work in compliance with company policy and within the guidelines of BioFire Diagnostics’ Quality System.
Create accurate intermediate to highly complex 3D models, assemblies according to project specific inputs and requirements using SolidWorks.
Create manufacturing drawings of assemblies and models including GD&T and BOM information.
Interpreting intermediate to highly complex 2D drawings and layouts for migration into a 3D environment.
Utilizes engineering concepts, company SOPs/WIDs, department SOPs/WIDs, and other sources, e.g. part catalogs, to find additional data to assist in a variety of technical tasks.
Communicate with internal and external customers and team members regarding project scope, change requests and milestone completions. May make recommendations to solve issues.
Mentor junior drafters.
Works effectively in a cross-functional environment offering any assistance necessary to complete the product.
Produce a wide range of engineering, cable and harness, or mechanical drawings for mechanical equipment under the guidance of engineers and management.
Monitor schedule constraints on all work.
Complete assignments on time and on schedule.
Maintains sets of drawings, drawing changes, and reports for projects assigned.
Perform all work in compliance with company quality procedures and standards.
Perform other duties as assigned.
