About The Position

Cimarron is seeking a Mechanical Designer (HVAC) to support the Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase of the US Air Force’s Sentinel program (GBSD) in Ogden, UT. Cimarron provides engineering and technical support to Bechtel for the design, construction, and integration of the Sentinel launch infrastructure at locations to include Vandenberg AFB, CA, F.E. Warren AFB, WY, Malmstrom AFB, MT, and Minot AFB, ND. Sentinel is a vital nuclear modernization program that will recapitalize the nation's aging ground based leg of the nuclear triad -- the Minuteman III Intercontinental Ballistic Missile (ICBM). This is an on-site position that offers a 9X80 work schedule (i.e., every other Friday off), paid overtime, and a great work/life balance. Requirements

  • This position requires access to federal facilities. Candidates must possess a valid, unexpired Real ID-compliant driver's license or state-issued identification card at the time of hire.   • Ability to complete a pre-employment background check and drug screening, which will include but is not limited to testing for marijuana use.
  • Experience using SmartPlant 3D.
  • Experience supporting a DoD/DoE, USACE, NAVFAC, or USAF program.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 9 or more years of experience, or an Associate of Arts or Science in Engineering/CAD with 6 or more years of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee Plant Design & Piping (PD&P) and HVAC design activities in support of U.S. Air Force and DoD infrastructure programs.
  • Provide technical leadership and governance for SmartPlant 3D model development, ensuring models produced by designers and drafters meet engineering, safety, and constructability requirements.
  • Establish, interpret, and enforce applicable design codes and standards including OSHA, NFPA, IBC, ASME B31.3, and ASHRAE for PD&P and HVAC systems.
  • Serve as the primary technical authority for resolving design conflicts, space constraints, and system interferences across multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Approve and release PD&P and HVAC design deliverables, including 3D models, layouts, and system configurations.
  • Lead constructability reviews and technical design reviews with Bechtel, USAF, and external stakeholders.
  • Authorize design changes, deviations, and engineering trade-offs that affect cost, schedule, safety, and compliance.
  • Oversee preparation and approval of material requisitions, bid evaluations, design estimates, and work plans.
  • Provide technical direction, prioritization, and oversight to engineers, designers, and drafters assigned to PD&P scope.
  • Communicate technical risks and recommendations to program and senior leadership.
  • Support the Sentinel (GBSD) Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) phase as the PD&P technical point of contact.
