About The Position

The Shipboard Effectors Department is currently searching for a Mechanical Design Engineer I to work on a multi-discipline team to support the production of Shipboard Effectors products and subsystems located in Louisville, KY. This is an onsite role with regular support required in a production facility. This Mechanical Engineering position performs in alignment to expectations in the design, development and production support areas associated with mechanical designs, validation principals, qualification processes, procurement, and production processes across a design life cycle. Development work may include requirements understanding, concept development, DFMAs, PFMAs, margin analysis, technical data package (TDP) development, application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing principals, engineering test principals, preparation of technical analysis reports, and presenting in design reviews. As a Mechanical Engineer in an individual contributor role, responsibilities will include technical execution of tasks, recommending solutions to a wide range of complex technical problems related to the design, manufacture, integration, and production sustainment of various mechanical sub-systems both in the engineering lab and the factory floor both at Raytheon Technologies and at suppliers. Post critical design activities include contributing to first article inspections, work instruction reviews, material dispositions, and root cause investigations to production issues. Decisions are data driven and require preparing technical justification analysis reports and presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering or related Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) major
  • Experience with 3D CAD tools (modeling and drawing)
  • Experience with interpreting assembly and/or component drawings
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Active and existing security clearance required after day 1

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) per ANSI Y14.5
  • Proficient in Creo (modeling and drawing) and Windchill (PDM)
  • Mechanical aptitude to provide solutions to a variety of technical problems of moderate scope and complexity.
  • Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative.
  • Active DoD security clearance
