About The Position

You will be the Mechanical Design Engineer for the Solid Rocket Motor (SRM) Product Center. Our team drives the design, development, and testing of next generation solid rocket motors that power critical defense and aerospace missions. Working within a cross functional Integrated Product Team (IPT), you’ll lead the mechanical design effort, collaborate with suppliers, and ensure our SRM hardware meets stringent performance, cost, and schedule goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or a related field from an accredited university with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Proficiency in PTC CREO
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, materials selection, and Design for Manufacturability (DFM) principles.
  • Solid knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5.
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to obtain DoD Secret Clearance.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Detail-oriented with a focus on process and quality.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with solid rocket motors.
  • Processing engineering to release using Model Based Design (MBD).
  • Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and/or Design for Affordability (DFA).
  • Understanding the processes surrounding ordnance handling /shipping and test.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design activities in Creo, generating 3 D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs in Windchill.
  • Conduct trade studies that evaluate cost, weight, structural integrity, and thermal performance.
  • Coordinate fabrication with machine shops and external suppliers, overseeing tooling, fixtures, and build plans.
  • Develop and execute mechanical Environmental Design Verification Tests (DVT) for energetics and live ordnance hardware.
  • Create designs using a variety of non standard materials—including metals, composites, and additive manufactured parts—tailored for SRM applications.
  • Calculate total product margins (TPMs), identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Support cross functional IPT meetings, providing status updates and technical insight.
  • Maintain configuration control and documentation compliance throughout the product lifecycle.
