About The Position

The objective of the Student Programs at Nexteer Automotive is to select students with high potential and provide them with "real world" work experiences. Work assignments expose students to many of the company's products, processes and procedures. Assignments are designed to assimilate acquired classroom education with actual hands-on work experience in a technical environment. In addition, Nexteer Automotive gains the opportunity to find new talent to enhance productivity while providing students exposure to full-time career opportunities. Job Requisition Introductory Paragraph: This is a Student Co-op position located in Saginaw, MI. This position supports Mechanical Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) activities.

Requirements

  • Candidate must be attending a 2-year college or 4-year university local to Saginaw
  • Candidate must be pursuing a Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering
  • Candidate must be able to work 20-32 hours during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Up to 40 in the summer
  • Must have cumulative 2.7 GPA on 4.0 scale
  • Must be a full-time student (12 or more credits) during Fall and Winter semesters
  • Candidate must have an interest in Computer Aided Engineering
  • Candidate must have growing knowledge and application of Mechanical Engineering principles
  • Candidate must have strong mathematical and analytic ability
  • Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Products (Office 365, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project, Access, SQL)
  • Candidate must have excellent communication, documentation skills and attention to detail
  • Candidate must have right to work in the US and not require current or future sponsorship

Responsibilities

  • Work with the CAE team to understand the capabilities of finite element analysis (FEA) and multibody dynamic (MBD) simulations
  • Execute FEA and MBD simulations under guidance, ensuring proper setup and troubleshooting basic issues during runs
  • Assist in setting up physical tests, collecting measurement data, and organizing results for correlation with virtual models
  • Compare simulation results with lab test data, perform statistical analysis, and help identify trends or discrepancies to improve model accuracy
  • Create clear, concise reports summarizing simulation results, correlation studies, and recommendations for design improvements.
