Assembles mechanical units or fabricated parts of various size and complexity using hand tools, jigs, and fixtures, as well as light power tools and equipment. Follows oral instructions, drawings, bills of material, and written procedures. Fits, aligns, adjusts, and calibrates parts and mechanisms to meet tolerances and operating requirements. Tests assembled parts. Repairs units or parts that have failed to meet specified functional performance. Disassembles and inspects subassemblies. Load and unload material from trucks to storage area and move within workspace using forklift, handcart, or other device. May exercise own technical judgment. Operates drill press, lathe, and milling machines. Inspects components using micrometers and records on inspection form. Disassembles equipment using pneumatic impact tools, torches, and hydraulic tools. Secure rigging and operate overhead cranes. Assemble components by heating, bolting, and welding.
