About The Position

Our Mechanical Assemblers are part of a team responsible for the assembly of OEM machines using schematics and drawings. Strong candidates will enjoy the hands-on assembly of machines. Candidates must have a strong mechanical background and be familiar with electrical wiring of components such as motors, pumps and switches. This position will train and grow into a role within our Service Department adding on-site customer installations and repairs, which requires travel within Ohio and around/outside the United States, sometimes on short notice. Palmer is a global company specializing in the production of heavy-duty no-bake foundry equipment. Our company provides sales, service and support to customer in the United States and numerous countries worldwide. This position will work 8-hour shifts, Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., while working in-house. Initial training may alter hours based on training needs, between 6:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.. Candidates must be authorized to work in the U.S.; possess a valid driver’s license; pass a background check; able to obtain a U.S. passport; and able to enter military sites. Relocation assistance is not available.

  • Strong level of mechanical skills – required

  • Ability to read engineering drawings and schematics – required
  • Ability to operate shop equipment and power tools – required
  • Ability to use and provide personal hand tools – required
  • Ability to work independently, with limited supervision, and/or with a team – required
  • Ability to lift and move 50 lbs., and work at heights or in compact spaces – required
  • Ability to safely drive and operate a forklift – required
  • Must wear safety toe shoes and safety glasses at all times in designated areas
  • Must be trainable and willing to learn
  • Must be reliable and have a good work ethic
  • Must have good written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate professionally and effectively
  • Must possess an unrestricted driver’s license with a driving record which meets our insurance requirements for coverage and have reliable transportation to work
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Must pass a background check
  • Ability to obtain passport and enter military sites – required

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Assemble machines using schematics and drawings from start to finished product
  • Use drawings, sketches, blueprints, hand tools & shop equipment to complete all phases of the product
  • Work with production staff to complete jobs on time
  • Assist Service with installations and repairs, including travel to customer sites
  • Maintain a safe, clean and orderly work area
  • Use of hand tools and power tools
  • Effectively communicate with supervisors regarding material inventory, shop supply inventory and product scheduling
  • Machine Assembler: assembly of mechanical, pneumatic, and electrical machine components including piping and wiring based on shop drawings using power tools or hand tools as required.
  • Electrical Machine Controls: knowledge of machine controls and ability to wire and calibrate control devices using shop drawings and manufacturer’s instructions.
  • PLC programming and troubleshooting using Allen Bradley RSLogix platforms
  • Field Service: travel (25%-50%), sometimes on short notice, to service customer needs including startup or repair of equipment. Travel from 2 days to 1 week is common to customer plants in the U.S. and Canada. Travel percentage fluctuates monthly based on customer demands.
