About The Position

A Mechanical Applications Designer designs, develops, and maintains NABCO product applications, focusing on understanding customer needs and ensuring applications function optimally and safely. This position is responsible for processing customer orders, designing, and implementing programs and applications for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the process. Mechanical Applications Designers works closely with Sales, Distributors, Customer Service and Engineering departments to identify requirements, translate them into drawings, technical specifications, and production documentation. This position may also be involved in technical support conversations.

  • Sound knowledge of various CAD packages: SolidWorks preferred, DriveWorks knowledge is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate within the team
  • Knowledge of SAP
  • Ability to read architectural drawings and pay attention to details
  • Associates degree in drafting or a related field required
  • 1-3 years’ related experience in construction, manufacturing, installation, or a related field required
  • Minimum of two years’ drafting experience required

Nice To Haves

  • Product line (doors/windows) and customer-to-factory order processing experience are desired
  • Experience in reading architectural and structural prints desired
  • Sound knowledge of various CAD packages: SolidWorks preferred, DriveWorks knowledge is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Translate customer requirements into technical specifications and understand the specific application.
  • Provide and adapt drawings and design specifications using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Create lists of components with dimensions and other information for fabrication or accounting purposes as well as manufacturing notes for various types of door products.
  • Collaborate with sales, engineering, and production teams to meet customer needs.
  • Create and maintain documentation for applications, including design specifications, production documents with safety usage in mind.
  • Ensure accuracy of Bill of Materials (BOM), cut lists, instructions, and other critical information accompanying all manufacturing paperwork.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to applications and support the Technical Service team with proper component numbers as needed.
  • Optimize application performance for speed, stability, and efficiency.
  • Communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Perform other duties associated with the process of manufacturing and supplying automatic and manual doors and components, including presenting info, estimating, and managing projects.
  • Use appropriate technology, procedures, processes, and systems to consistently deliver results.
  • Support R&D Engineering with new applications to meet emerging needs.
  • Ensure drawings provide necessary details for fabrication and installation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
