About The Position

This role is part of Blue Origin Operations, which is comprised of Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance. This includes Manufacturing and Supply Chain support across all Blue Origin facilities. As part of a small, passionate and accomplished team of experts, you will support the design, and analysis of piping systems associated with space vehicle launch facilities. Typical systems include high pressure gas and cryogenic fluid systems. This position will directly impact the history of space exploration and will require your dedicated commitment and detailed attention towards safe and repeatable spaceflight.

Requirements

  • Four-year aerospace or mechanical engineering degree (or similar discipline)
  • At least five years experience in a technical engineering role
  • Extensive experience with performing piping stress analyses and interpreting results using Bentley AutoPipe
  • Experience guiding others in the use of piping analysis tools and reviewing analyses created by others
  • Experience using ASME B31.3 design criteria for stress analysis piping systems
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of relevant experience, especially design and analysis of piping/tubing systems.
  • Knowledge of standard components, installation and fabrication methods of piping systems (pipe stock, fittings, connections, valves, fasteners, structural members, fitting, welding, etc)
  • Knowledge of fluid components typical in tubing and piping systems (valves, regulators, pumps, etc)
  • Experience interpreting P&IDs and fabrication/ installation drawings for piping systems
  • Use of AutoCAD or AutoCAD P&ID for creation/interrogation of P&IDs
  • Knowledge of solid modelling or plant modelling; CREO or similar solid modelling and or BIM tools
  • Experience with structural hand calculations and analysis software tools (ANSYS, NASTRAN, etc.)
  • Ability to work remotely with some presence at Blue offices when required.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as group representative responsible for coordination of deliverables related to piping and tubing systems analysis for launch complex ground support equipment (GSE) and test facilities.
  • Create and maintain piping analyses through the design lifecycle.
  • Perform detailed checks (peer reviews) of existing analyses and communicate results to stakeholders for acceptance and/or design iteration.
  • Work with the team to ensure designs close on cost, schedule and technical requirements; supporting other analyses (detailed stress/FEA, fluid flow, etc.) of piping systems with structural/piping details, as needed.
