A Day in the Life of:
As a member of our team, you will report to the Project Manager. You will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel-powered equipment at Defense Supply Center. Your people skills will come in handy and will help you to maintain fantastic professional relationships with your fellow team members and those that we serve.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, along with experience in engine or small engine repair.
• Must have at least two years of experience and a basic understanding of small engines.
• Demonstrates working knowledge of all aspects of small engine repair and maintenance.
• Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance.
• Ability to operate and control small electric and gas-powered equipment.
• Demonstrated ability to perform repairs, routine maintenance, troubleshooting, and quality control analysis.
• Thorough knowledge of all tools used for these repairs (electric, pneumatic, etc.).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Valid Virginia driver's license.
• Strong communication skills.
• Ability to learn new skills and adapt based on latest technology.
• Ability to pass background check.

Responsibilities

• Performs preventative maintenance according to specifications.
• Repairs small engine and/or diesel engines used to power lawn mowers, string trimmers, backpack blowers, and similar equipment using appropriate tools.
• Locates causes of trouble using appropriate tools and examines parts for defects or excessive wear using precision measuring instruments.
• Repairs or replaces defective parts, including carburetors, distributors, spark plugs, magnetos, etc.
• Cleans and adjusts parts using hand tools.
• Sets clearances using feeler gauges.
• Orders parts, advises Project Manager on recommended spare parts, and ensures availability when needed.
• Orders parts and re-taps parts to obtain specified clearances using grinders, taps, reamers, and boring machines.
