About The Position

This position is for a Mechanic responsible for maintaining all mechanical systems to ensure proper operation for cooling and heating within the NYSE facilities. Key duties include the installation and repair of package units and split systems, assisting the Chief and Assistant Chief Engineer with HVAC and plumbing systems in the NYSE cooling plant, and maintaining sprinkler, standpipe, and fire detection systems. The role also involves ensuring the optimum operating condition of pumps, compressors, and auxiliary equipment, maintaining consistent chilled and condenser water flow, and correcting mechanical and electrical malfunctions. The Mechanic will perform miscellaneous duties such as bathroom and temperature calls, manage spare parts inventory for air handler units, and maintain cleanliness of mechanical equipment rooms and storage areas. The ideal candidate is a self-starter, eager to learn, and a team player, capable of working overtime, especially on Saturdays.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience as a mechanic in related fields, such as HVAC or plumbing.
  • Proficient in using hand tools and power tools.
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Ability to perform daily duties in a safe and professional manner and work as approved by the OSHA safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work with, and lift 50lbs.
  • Climbing of ship ladders, extension ladders, and working at heights in various weather conditions.
  • Must be able to crawl and work in small, confined spaces for extended periods of time.
  • The ability to use your abdominal and lower back muscles to support part of the body repeatedly or continuously over time without 'giving out' or fatiguing.
  • The ability to bend, stretch, twist, or reach with your body, arms, and/or legs.
  • CFC Universal Certificate

Nice To Haves

  • College degree and or college courses preferred.
  • Knowledge of basic electronics and computer knowledge and programs is a plus.
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness: Q01 Refrigeration Operator
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness: S12/S13/S14 Combination Standpipe/Sprinkler
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness: A35 Compressor
  • FDNY Certificate of Fitness: G60 Combination Torch/Gas

Responsibilities

  • Maintain all mechanical systems as required to ensure proper operation for cooling and heating.
  • Experienced in the overall installation and repair of package units and split systems.
  • Assist the Chief Engineer and Assistant Chief Engineer in maintenance and upkeep of the NYSE cooling plant, primarily regarding the HVAC and plumbing systems.
  • Maintain sprinkler and standpipe systems along with the fire detection system.
  • Ensure optimum operating condition of all pumps, compressors and auxiliary equipment.
  • Maintain a consistent flow rate of the chilled and condenser water supply throughout the facilities.
  • Must be able to correct and/or contain mechanical and electrical malfunctions that might occur throughout the building.
  • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned, such as bathroom calls and hot and cold calls.
  • Maintain the spare parts inventory of all air handler units and associated mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all MER’s and storage areas, including painting.
  • Must be a self-starter, eager to learn, and a well-rounded team player.
  • Must be able to work overtime, especially on Saturdays.
