About The Position

The mechanic will satisfactorily perform preventive maintenance and make repairs to school buses in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as best practices and Indiana State Police inspection standards. Corporation vehicles (non-bus) will also be repaired and maintained. Bus changes and road calls will be performed as needed. Functions as a standby substitute bus driver as needed and other duties as assigned by the Transportation Supervisor.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Experience in heavy duty mechanics
• Experience in using diagnostic equipment
• Posses an Indiana Class B Commercial Driver’s License with public passenger, school bus and air brake endorsements, or be willing to obtain one
• Ability to work in both hot and cold areas
• Ability to perform periods of strenuous work and extended periods of standing
• Ability to work safely with chemicals and cleaners including following procedures and using personal protective equipment when required
• Ability to work hands-on using power and hand tools to perform manual tasks and operate equipment
• Ability to bend, stoop, twist, climb, squat, kneel, reach, push, pull, carry and be able to lift up to 75 pounds
