Covia is looking for a dynamic Mechanic who will positively impact the Operations team at its Elco, IL. location. The successful incumbent will have the following Key Accountabilities: Practice all facets of the safety and health policies while adhering to the SLAM risk method within the sphere of all tasks Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all safety procedures concerning the maintenance mechanic position, including but not limited to, the (NFPA70E-Based) arc flash electrical hazards safe work practices. Knowledge of and ability to perform a Pre-Task Risk Assessment or JSA (Job Safety Analysis) utilizing the Covia Corporation Slam Risks Checklist program. Knowledge of and ability to adhere to all Federal and local – site specific Lockout & Tag-out procedures for working on or testing mobile and or stationary machinery and equipment. The ability to work from elevated work platforms and ladders using personal protection equipment such as, full body safety harnesses and lanyards. Layout and fabrication of items such as, guards, chutes, etc. from rough sketches and dimensions. Knowledge of servicing and repairing bulk handling equipment such as, screw conveyors, bucket elevators and pneumatic conveying equipment. The ability to make decisions on equipment repair. Other duties as assigned or required by supervisor.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • To be available for scheduled 24 hour call out.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in cutting, welding, and fabricating preferred
  • Experience with operating and repairing various machinery
  • Some electrical knowledge a plus (replacing fuses, motors, etc.)
