About The Position

Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently looking for Mechanics in Austin, TX to join our team. This position is responsible for performing preventive and corrective maintenance tasks on Stadler GTW 2/6 Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) passenger rail vehicle mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Associate’s degree in electrical/electronic or mechanical technology or related experience.
Two – five years verifiable mechanical and/or electrical work experience.
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
Understanding chain of custody concepts with regards to parts issuance and distribution.
Able to conduct tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
Able to use various software programs as required.
Work in close proximity to moving vehicles.
Satisfactory employment record.
Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
Maintain a valid driver’s license and endorsements as required per position.
Pass pre-employment DOT physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
This position requires you to pass and maintain a DOT medical evaluation to drive a Herzog commercial vehicle.
Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.
Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet.
Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet.
Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.
Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24 inches.
Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
Regularly lay on back for extended periods of time.
Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.
Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
Must be able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.

Nice To Haves

Diesel and/or Locomotive Mechanical background a plus.
Prior rail maintenance experience highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Successfully complete any and all vendor supplied training courses related to any DMU vehicle system and/or subsystem.
Assist with DMU testing and acceptance program.
Assist vendors in repairing the DMU during warranty period.
Assist in setting up the DMU Maintenance Shop.
Inspect, troubleshoot, repair and test DMU systems and equipment.
Perform mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic diagnosis.
Document warranty data according to client policies and procedures.
Comply with all safety, operating and maintenance procedures.
Must demonstrate ability to work in a team environment to complete repairs in a timely manner.
Provide passenger service support to minimize service delays.
Perform re-railing operations as required.
Work outdoors in inclement weather as needed.
Maintain small tool equipment.
Work with minimal direct supervision.
Utilize the client supplied MMIS system as required.
Required to work at any time of the day or night as assigned.

Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
