About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic is responsible for performing all levels of preventive maintenance and repairs on company vehicles and equipment. Diagnose all vehicle systems using the latest software and equipment. Perform all repairs on equipment as assigned. Document and generate all work orders and pm forms using fleet management software. Requirements

  • At least one full year of experience and the ability to obtain an Annual Inspector Certification
  • At least one full year of experience and the ability to obtain a Brake Inspector Certification
  • Technician must provide all hand tools (diagnostic equipment and major tools provided by Rio Grande Co.) necessary to perform all maintenance repair and diagnostics
  • At least 2 years of experience with all vehicle systems and components, diagnosis and repair of electrical systems on all equipment and preventive maintenance inspections and repair
  • At least 1 year of experience in welding and cutting (gas, electric, MIG, TIG) of different forms of metal fabrication
  • Ability to utilize a window based computer system
  • At least 2 years of experience and knowledge working with all different forms of DOT (FMCSA) regulations
  • Must have a valid Class C driver license, CDL A or B preferred

Nice To Haves

  • 609 HVAC Certification, preferred
  • Manufacturing Certifications and/or course completions from Dodge, Cummins, Freightliner, Paccar, GMC, Ford or others, preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer based diagnostic software for original equipment and component manufacturers, such as CATET, Quick serve, Texa, Davi or other preferred
  • Completion of an auto/diesel technical program, preferred

Responsibilities

  • Perform required inspections and preventive maintenance on vehicles and equipment within planned time tolerances to maximize the safety, reliability, and cost efficiency throughout the life cycle of the fleet.
  • Perform FAI/CVI (Annual) inspections on over 215 fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, light duty vehicles and any other company owned equipment in accordance with all federal, state and local legal and regulatory agencies. (Includes all state required inspections and frequencies).
  • Perform quality preventive maintenance inspections per company methods on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, light duty vehicles and any other company owned equipment.
  • Perform quality maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, light duty vehicles and any company owned equipment.
  • Diagnose cause of any malfunction and perform repairs to manufacturer specifications including but not limited to engines, transmissions and clutches, driveline, differential, steering and suspension, fuel and ignition system, exhaust systems (including regeneration systems), intake systems, electrical systems, brake systems, HVAC systems.
  • Follow procedures including documenting all work performed on work orders.
  • All other duties assigned.
