Purpose of Role: The Mechanic with CDL ensures Vac2Go’s vacuum trucks and related equipment are safe, reliable, compliant, and rent‑ready to support uninterrupted operations and a high‑quality customer experience. This role performs preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs while maintaining DOT and fleet compliance, supporting shop operations, and assisting both internal teams and customers. In addition to technical expertise, this role supports daily operations by safely operating company vehicles, coordinating shop workflows, managing parts and inventory needs, and balancing cost efficiency with equipment availability. Job Summary/Objective: The Mechanic with CDL is responsible for servicing, maintaining, and repairing all vacuum trucks, accessories, and related equipment to ensure operational readiness and customer satisfaction. Driving company vehicles is an essential function of this role, requiring strict adherence to all federal, state, and DOT driving regulations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 5 years of mechanical experience in a working heavy-duty shop.
  • 2 years of driving experience in accordance with CDL or Non‑CDL requirements.
  • Air Brake experience or training.
  • Experience with both automatic and manual equipment.
  • Valid driver’s license and current DOT certification (CDL or Non‑CDL).
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to operate diagnostic systems and interpret results.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Fleet Management and ERP systems.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on vacuum trucks, accessories, and equipment.
  • Utilize industry‑standard diagnostic tools to identify root causes and determine appropriate solutions.
  • Conduct repairs including clutch, brake, A/C, electrical, and hydraulic work.
  • Ensure PM schedules and inspection requirements are current and completed.
  • Determine whether repair or replacement is the most efficient solution.
  • Assess and document vehicle and equipment damage.
  • Maintain accurate Fleet Management and DOT documentation; submit required updates daily.
  • Review and approve Check‑In/Check‑Out sheets and identify external repair needs.
  • Ensure all units meet Vac2Go and DOT standards prior to rental.
  • Support development and execution of the Plan of the Day and Plan of the Week.
  • Communicate daily priorities and update the shop board as changes occur.
  • Ensure required parts and tools are available prior to initiating repairs.
  • Manage parts and tool inventory and proactively process orders.
  • Balance cost efficiency with quality and operational needs.
  • Identify training needs and provide guidance or instruction to shop team members as needed.
  • Deliver equipment and truck training to employees and customers when required.
  • Monitor adherence to safety policies, procedures, and timekeeping processes.
  • Communicate directly with customers to address concerns and troubleshoot equipment issues.
  • Follow up on customer requests in a timely and professional manner.
  • Support a positive customer experience through clear communication and effective problem resolution.
