About The Position

This is an entry-level position in maintenance of wastewater facilities. Under the direction and oversight of the Lead Maintenance Technician and/or Supervisor, the Mechanic’s Assistant supports maintenance staff and is trained to perform the maintenance of wastewater facilities and associated systems including, but not limited to, liquids treatment, solids handling, chemical systems, odor control, lift stations. This position performs a variety of work assignments to ensure acceptable asset conditions and water quality and health and safety standards are met or exceeded.

Requirements

  • No experience in industrial operations or maintenance is required, but it is preferred. Basic mechanical, electrical, and maintenance aptitude is preferred.
  • Possess a high school diploma or GED.
  • Maintain a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • Preference is to obtain a Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Wastewater or Water Treatment or Collection or Distribution System Operator's License.
  • An associate degree or trade certification is preferred.
  • Obtain knowledge of maintenance and reliability practices and principles and awareness of wastewater assets and their operation, including the ability to troubleshoot equipment typically used in wastewater operations.
  • Communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with supervisors, peers, and subordinates.
  • Maintain basic computer skills and electrical and mechanical knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Learns to perform assigned tasks associated with preventive, corrective, and emergency maintenance work orders for facility assets. Work may also include rough carpentry, painting, plumbing, welding duties as required.
  • Participates in an environment of Integrity, Trust, Respect, Unity, Safety, and Teamwork.
  • Assists in evaluating equipment condition and performance by observation and using inspection tools. Learns to monitor asset operation and notify appropriate personnel of needed repairs.
  • Maintains thorough logs and records in both written and electronic form as required.
  • Follows job plans to ensure safe and consistent work practices.
  • Observes safety policies and guidelines as required by State statutes and as prescribed by NTMWD.
  • Monitors the facility for any breaches of security and alerts appropriate law enforcement agencies and/or supervisors, as appropriate for the situation.
  • Monitors systems and assets during emergencies and planned shutdowns and reports problems. Responds to emergencies as directed.
  • Maintains facility and work area housekeeping.
  • Learns and complies with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
