About The Position

The Mechanic Lead is responsible for repairing and maintaining equipment, conducting quality control analysis, training maintenance staff and ensuring all work complies with company Health, Safety, and Environmental standards. This role requires advanced knowledge of machines and tools, including their design, use, repair, and maintenance. The position operates under flexible parameters with a primary goal of achieving excellence in safety, quality, and efficiency. High‑quality work reduces accidents and errors while increasing operational performance and profitability.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required with five years of experience assisting skilled tradespersons in heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
  • Candidates with an Associate’s degree in Heavy Duty Truck or Heavy Equipment Repair and two years of relevant experience may be considered.
  • Experience developing and delivering technical or safety training with demonstrated experience mentoring or training maintenance personnel.
  • Proficiency with advanced diagnostic tools and electronic troubleshooting systems.
  • Strong understanding of preventive maintenance programs and scheduling.
  • Ability to lead complex repairs involving hydraulics, electrical systems, welding, fabrication, or powertrain components.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate workflow and prioritize repairs during high‑demand periods.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres strictly to all Metals Recycling Business Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Maintains a safe environment for employees, customers, and visitors.
  • Repair and replace broken or malfunctioning components of machinery and equipment.
  • Maintain and restore the operating condition of industrial production and processing equipment.
  • Reassemble equipment following inspections, testing, or repairs.
  • Operate newly repaired machinery to verify adequacy of repairs.
  • Document all repairs and maintenance performed.
  • Test equipment to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance including cleaning, lubrication, and adjustments.
  • Read and interpret operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized diagnostic equipment and calibration devices.
  • Train, mentor, and support maintenance staff and less experienced mechanics in proper repair techniques, safe work practices, and company standards.
  • Provide hands‑on instruction in diagnostics, preventive maintenance, equipment operation, and repair procedures.
  • Assist in developing training materials, demonstrations, and skill‑building sessions.
  • Monitor trainee progress and communicate performance gaps or training needs to management. Serve as a technical resource, sharing advanced troubleshooting methods and best practices.
  • Assist throughout the yard as needed.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
