What started as a better way for us to manage production and printing for clients has grown into an important leap forward for transforming how businesses communicate and work. The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing high-speed print production and envelope inserting equipment to ensure optimal performance and minimal downtime. This role supports daily production operations by performing preventive maintenance, diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues, and assisting with equipment setups and changeovers. The pay range for this role is USD $20/hr. - $30/hr. The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Technical or vocational training in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance required; or equivalent work experience
  • 3+ years of experience in mechanical maintenance or repair of high-speed print, mail inserting, or finishing equipment
  • Prior hands-on experience with Pitney Bowes, Blue Crest or Bell & Howell inserters required
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills for high-speed automated systems
  • Working knowledge of electromechanical systems, pneumatics, and basic electrical circuits
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance (PMs) and machine adjustments to maintain uptime and quality
  • Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
  • Familiarity with lockout/tagout (LOTO) and general industrial safety protocols
  • Basic computer literacy for maintenance logs, work orders, or parts tracking systems
  • Strong attention to detail, communication, and ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Creative and resourceful trouble shooting skills
  • Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced and demanding environment
  • Ability to stand and move around the production floor for extended periods (8–12 hours per shift)
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull materials, parts, or tools up to 50 pounds regularly; occasionally up to 75 pounds with assistance.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching to access machinery components or perform repairs in tight spaces
  • Use of hands and fingers to handle tools, parts, and controls with precision for assembly, adjustment, and repair work
  • Must have close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus for inspecting small components and reading technical drawings
  • Ability to hear equipment alarms, moving machinery, and communicate effectively in a noisy production environment
  • Work performed in a manufacturing/warehouse setting with exposure to moving mechanical parts, moderate noise levels, paper dust, and occasional use of cleaning chemicals or lubricants

  • Experience troubleshooting MCS Inkjet, Tabbers, MBO folders, GBR sheet feeders, Strappers, Stampers, and Motors a plus

Responsibilities

  • Set up, maintain, and repair mail inserting and print finishing equipment such as Pitney Bowes FlowMaster, BlueCrest Epic, Bell & Howell Producer, Kern, or Buhrs systems.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, lubrication, alignment, and part replacement on inserters, folders, tabbers, meters, and conveyors.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues to minimize downtime and maintain quality standards.
  • Assist machine operators with equipment changeovers, adjustments, and setup to ensure smooth production runs.
  • Monitor equipment performance and make continuous improvement recommendations for efficiency, reliability, and safety.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and report recurring issues or part needs to supervisors.
  • Support installation of new or upgraded production equipment, including calibration and testing.
  • Collaborate with operations staff to ensure equipment is operating in line with production goals and postal standards.
  • Adhere to all safety, quality, and regulatory guidelines in a print/mail production environment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
