About The Position

This position performs mechanical diagnosis and repair on the full range of vehicles owned by GoTriangle. Mechanic II performs all of the tasks of the Mechanic I but spends less time in preventive maintenance and campaigns. The Mechanic II performs the more complex diagnostic, fabrication, repair and overhauling work. This work requires a broader scope and greater depth of knowledge and skill in a wide variety of functions and subjects, particularly the theory of mechanical and electronic functions. This position reports to a Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Three years total related experience with experience as a journey mechanic on a variety of gasoline and diesel equipment.
  • Must be able to report to work during Adverse Weather conditions.
  • Must have a good driving record and have or be able to obtain a class B Commercial Driver's License with a passenger endorsement.
  • Must be able to meet the Department of Transportation's physical requirements and maintain a valid DOT card.
  • Strong analytical/diagnostic skills.
  • Certification in servicing motor vehicle A/C in accordance with Section 609 of the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990.
  • Certification in performing both Safety and Emission Inspections in accordance with the State of NC Division of Motor Vehicle Regulations.
  • Proficient in the use of a full range of mechanic tools and equipment such as steam cleaner, jumper cables, battery booster, hydraulic jack, hoist, creeper, diagnostic and repair equipment, tune-up machine, hydraulic press, vacuum pump, leak detector, electrical circuitry tester, metal machine lathe, A/C recovery machine, arbor press, forklift, welder, cutting tor.
  • An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be substituted for the above stated minimums excluding High School Diploma, GED, Licenses, or Certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnoses mechanical bus and specially equipped van problems in the areas of mechanical, pneumatic, HVAC, and hydraulic systems controlled by specialized electronic and computerized systems.
  • Repairs problems on virtually any company vehicles including air brakes, transmissions, engines, electronic controls including engine and transmission electronic controls, electronic fare boxes, steering systems, HVAC systems, differentials, 12- and 24-volt electrical systems, electronic head signs, pneumatic lifts, doors, seats, and even windows.
  • Fabricates parts such as frames, brackets, braces and linkages from metal; Welds and shapes as needed.
  • Recommends whether to rebuild or order a new part based on cost efficiency and service history.
  • Repairs simple to complex malfunctions, such as those involving automatic transmissions, electronic controls and computer integrated hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Determines task assignments, specific parts to use, and evaluates the work of a helper.
  • Responds to road calls. Diagnoses the problem, determines parts and repairs needed, decides whether to deadline the vehicle, and, if possible, repair the vehicle at the breakdown site.
  • Determines whether a vehicle is unsafe for use and if it needs to be deadlines.
  • Researches vehicle service manuals for information on maintenance and repair.
  • Continuously upgrades technical knowledge and skills to stay current on changes that occur each year.
  • Updates the vehicle's service records.
  • Remains fully knowledgeable of and maintains compliance with all Safety rules and regulations.
  • Ensures proper safety tools and equipment are used at all times and reports Safety hazards and/or violations.
  • Other duties as assigned.
