About The Position

The Resource Center has been providing services to persons with disabilities in the Chautauqua County area since 1958. From our humble beginnings as a gathering of parents and concerned citizens who wanted to provide educational and training opportunities for persons with developmental and intellectual disabilities, The Resource Center has grown into a comprehensive agency providing services to thousands of persons with all types and levels of disabilities. The Resource Center is the largest non-governmental employer in Chautauqua County with more than 1,300 employees on its payroll. The mission of The Resource Center is to support individuals with disabilities and other challenges in achieving maximum independence, contributing to their community, experiencing lifelong growth, and enjoying quality of life. MECHANIC II RESPONSIBLE TO: Transportation Supervisor - Vehicles FUNCTION: To keep The Resource Center’s fleet of vehicles in safe operating condition by performing scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in accordance with good safety practices.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of standard automotive repair methods and of the terminology and tools of the trade
  • Demonstrated ability to make major and minor repairs to automotive equipment, including cars, vans, trucks and buses, and other mechanical equipment
  • Familiarity with welding techniques
  • Familiarity with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Inspection Regulations and possession of or ability to possess a New York State Inspection License.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the job.

Responsibilities

  • Assist Supervisor to order parts and maintain a small inventory with a minimum investment consistent with safety and economic advantages.
  • To perform minor repairs and maintenance consistent with safety and economic advantages.
  • To evaluate engine repair or replacement and consult with the Director of Support Operations and Property Management prior to ordering parts or performing work.
  • Ability to use a computerized diagnostic tool and ability to make the necessary repairs whenever possible or contract it out to a vehicle repair vendor who specializes in the needed repair.
  • Assist Supervisor in ensuring that vehicle inspections are conducted in a timely manner consistent with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles Inspection regulations.
  • To perform road service for disabled vehicles.
  • To document the completion of work per established forms.
  • To perform preventative maintenance on a regularly scheduled basis.
  • To keep The Resource Center’s vehicles neat, clean and organized so as to minimize accident potential, present a good image, and maximize output through efficient operation.
  • Performs other related duties as needed or assigned.
