Job Summary The Mechanic/Grind Operator is responsible for operating grinding equipment on roadway and pavement projects, while also performing preventative maintenance and mechanical repairs on grinding and grooving equipment. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills, experience with heavy machinery, and the ability to work effectively in fast-paced field environments.

Requirements

  • Experience operating heavy vehicles in a construction environment.
  • Must possess a valid unrestricted Class A CDL with a tanker endorsement and have a good driving history.
  • OSHA 10 certification
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Strong mechanical abilities and safety-oriented mindset.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to follow instructions.
  • Reliable transportation to and from construction sites.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional certifications for specialized equipment may be required (crane, boom truck).

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy machinery and equipment such as pavement profile grinders, loaders, and support equipment on heavy civil construction projects.
  • Follow project plans, specifications, and safety guidelines while completing grinding tasks.
  • Transport and operate specialized heavy equipment safely and efficiently, such as water trucks, semis, and tankers.
  • Perform daily equipment inspections to ensure operational safety and reliability.
  • Adhere to and promote safety protocols, ensuring a safe working environment for yourself and your team.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues.
  • Work on profile grinders, groovers, and other support equipment for grinding and grooving operations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors, operators, and crew members regarding equipment status.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized condition.
