About The Position

With direction from the Zone Manager and Working Supervisor, the Mechanic works with a team of multi-craft mechanics to provide routine and emergency plumbing and multi-craft maintenance for campus buildings. Additionally, the mechanic works closely with internal customers including students, faculty and staff to resolve maintenance issues and work orders. Typical craft-specific work includes, but is not limited to, the maintenance, installation, repair and inspection of plumbing and piping systems, equipment and fixtures. Multi-craft maintenance activities may include working with various HVAC systems, basic electrical work, carpentry, and painting. Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:45 AM-4:15 PM.

Requirements

  • Must have successfully completed a recognized craft apprenticeship program, a technical school training program (such as a Ranken Technical College two-year certification program) or other equivalent training program.
  • Must be able to obtain a Missouri Class E Driver’s License by the end of the probationary period and cannot drive University owned vehicles until Class E Driver’s License is obtained.
  • Must be willing to provide one’s own hand tools.
  • Vocational Diploma - Specific Trade
  • Working In A Particular Craft Or Multi-Craft Position (5 Years)
  • A Class E (MO) or Class D (IL) license and a good driving record are required for this position.

Responsibilities

  • Maintaining and repairing a variety of plumbing systems building infrastructure systems and equipment such as hot/chilled water systems, sewage lift stations, grease/chemical traps, fire pumps, loop systems, softeners, water heaters, and drainage systems, etc.
  • Troubleshoots leak supplies and drain lines, and cabling as needed.
  • Responding to work orders and other requests in a timely, efficient, competent, knowledgeable and friendly manner.
  • Performing preventative maintenance based on the building needs and individual skillset (e.g., HVAC filter change, general equipment room inspections, etc.).
  • Pro-actively identifying, communicating and addressing needs without direction when appropriate.
  • Maintaining data per departmental policy.
  • Utilizing materials, supplies, tools and other University property in a safe, productive manner.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
