About The Position

Penn State is searching for a full time Mechanic A, Heating and Ventilating (Abington) - Grade 4 to join the team. Duties include: Perform daily inspection of assigned area campus to check for unusual or emergency conditions; report maintenance needs to supervisor Inspect, maintain and repair heating, ventilating, and air conditioning units throughout campus to include fans, motors, water chillers, cooling towers, cooling pumps, etc. Read schematics, blue prints, drawings, manufacturers' manuals and technical sheets; make corrections on drawings, maps, etc. , as required Maintain and install electrical equipment; remove, replace, or make repairs to electrical switches, relays, coils, motors, outlets, light fixtures, street lighting, etc. Install new lighting circuits in offices and other campus areas; install and wire equipment such as motors, lighting, panels, etc. Calibrate and adjust equipment on heating/chilled water type systems to effect seasonal changeover from heating to cooling and vice versa Tear down ordinary units; localize trouble; determine extent of repair necessary; repair or replace defective parts or wiring and reassemble Inspect, maintain and repair kitchen equipment such as ovens, steam generators, dishwashers, garbage disposal units, ice makers, etc. Operate various types of tools(both hand and power) such as bending, threading tools, etc. Test and maintain fire alarm and emergency lighting systems on an assigned schedule. Install new heating, ventilating, air conditioning and electrical systems as directed; make alterations/modifications to existing systems as required Answer emergency calls and perform necessary performs Operate university vehicle Occasionally, answer questions for or direct the work of full-time or part-time employees when assigned to assist in duties Maintain a continuing inspection and maintenance program on campus utility systems

Requirements

  • Requires the use of advanced shop mathematics, together with the use of complicated drawings, specifications, charts, tables, handbook formulas, all varieties of adjustable measuring instruments and the use of broad training in a recognized trade or craft.
  • Equivalent to a complete accredited, indentured apprenticeship or equivalent to high school plus a 2-year technical college education.
  • Over 2 up to and including 3 years effective experience.
