Pay Transparency: Starting rates will be no less than the local minimum wage and may vary based on things like location, experience, qualifications, and the terms of any applicable collective bargaining agreement. Candidates with unique qualifications may be considered for compensation above this range. Dependent on length of service, hours worked, any applicable collective bargaining agreement and/or Company policy, benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay, PTO/Vacation pay, paid holidays, bereavement pay and retirement benefits (pension and/or 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position may be eligible for a quarterly bonus, subject to Company bonus plans. Applications are accepted on an on-going basis. For roles in Washington State: Sick pay and PTO/Vacation pay are accrued based on hours worked and paid holidays are issued at 7-9 days annually.

Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with a professional demeanor toward customers and coworkers.
  • Basic knowledge of product perishability, seasonality, conditioning, handling, safety, and sanitation procedures.
  • Strong understanding of Company practices and Meat Department policies and procedures.
  • Frequently lifts and maneuvers objects up to approximately 80 lbs; bends, stoops, reaches, pushes, and pulls heavy equipment.
  • Requires manual dexterity and good eye‑hand coordination.
  • Requires mental alertness to ensure safe and accurate completion of duties; requires basic math and knowledge of weights and measures.
  • Knowledgeable about product varieties, standards, perishability, sanitation, labeling, and department practices.
  • Operates phones, pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, scissors, safety cutters, grinders, saws, saw blades, and cubers.
  • Utilizes cleaning supplies and equipment.
  • Operates computer software and electronic ordering devices to order products.
  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays; consistent attendance is essential.
  • Exposure to potential hazards related to equipment and tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with a strong emphasis on fast and friendly Customer Service.
  • Assists customers by making product suggestions, filling special orders, and offering food preparation ideas.
  • Engages in suggestive selling and sales techniques via telephone, in‑store intercom, and one‑on‑one interactions.
  • Plans daily operations and monitors production processes in accordance with company procedures and profitability goals.
  • Trims, cuts, wraps, trays, and displays meat. Builds meat and seafood displays, rotates stock, and discards outdated or spoiled product. Ensures cleanliness of the work area and department.
  • Implements effective promotional and seasonal displays. May oversee operation and maintenance of the meat cooler, freezer, and butcher block.
  • Follows and maintains department standards for handling quick‑sale items.
  • Conducts cutting tests on meat products to monitor profitability.
  • Ensures trim specifications and cutting standards are met. Ensures proper temperatures during all phases of preparation, display, and storage.
  • Schedules, supervises, trains, and assigns duties to department employees.
  • Monitors productivity and evaluates overall employee performance.
  • Prepares employee schedules to ensure adequate coverage and service levels.
  • Possesses detailed knowledge of all department employee duties and assists with cutting, grinding, and wrapping fresh meat products.
  • Understands opening and closing department procedures.
  • Trains employees on store policies, sales procedures, and record‑keeping requirements.
  • Identifies and develops employees with high potential for advancement.
  • Maintains working knowledge of policies outlined in the Albertsons/Tom Thumb Employee Handbook.
  • Initiates personnel actions such as interviews, transfers, promotions, and disciplinary processes.
  • Prepares sales and inventory reports; participates in physical inventory every 4 weeks.
  • Controls inventory to ensure product quantity, quality, and freshness; maintains inventory levels per division guidelines. Stocks, rotates, and organizes the meat cooler.
  • Controls shrink and department costs.
  • Ensures correct product preparation techniques.
  • Operates equipment such as pallet jacks, hand trucks, scissors, knives, safety cutters, grinders, saws, saw blades, and cubers.
  • Completes, maintains, and monitors daily log sheets, Production Charts, Meat Grinding Logs, Sales and Labor documentation, and other necessary records.
  • Performs receiving duties including breaking down loads, verifying invoices, checking quality, reporting shortages, stocking, rotating product, and ensuring proper temperature and storage compliance. Maintains accurate department paperwork.
  • Ensures proper temperatures for all products and ensures proper product signage, pricing, and Country of Origin Labeling (COOL). Complies with labeling laws and federal/state regulations.
  • Follows all workplace safety rules and regulations.
  • Maintains safety, cleanliness, and sanitation of the sales floor, work areas, freezer, cooler, equipment, cutting room, and display areas, including code‑date compliance.
  • Implements emergency procedures during equipment or software malfunctions.
  • Participates in sales meetings and communicates goals, department performance, and opportunities to the team.
  • Ensures compliance with grooming standards and dress code.
  • Performs all duties safely, accurately, honestly, and with integrity.
  • Performs other duties as required.
