About The Position

This position maintains liquid meters, pneumatic/hydraulic composite samplers, flow computers, valves and valve operators, piston type provers, sphere type provers, and performs calibrations and inspections of all instrumentation related to quality and quantity determination in a manner to meet operational needs in compliance with partnership and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of applicable EPA, DOT, RRC, OSHA, NEC, AGA, API and GPA requirements and procedures.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with our customer base.
  • PC skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 - Outlook, Word and Excel.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college or technical trade school is preferred.
  • A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred for this role.

Responsibilities

  • Performs the installation, calibration, and maintenance of pipeline volumetric measurement systems within an assigned area of Ohio, to provide accurate custody transfers of Crude Oil.
  • Calibrate existing meters to determine meter factors using provers (fixed or portable), on an established proving schedule or as directed.
  • Coordinates work with pipeline scheduling and control center departments to ensure that provings are made at meaningful flow rates.
  • Establishes a daily work schedule with a starting and quitting time(s) that reflects the times at which the movements are being made through the meters and throughout various facilities to maintain a forty (40) hour work week consistent with delivery schedules, minimizing or eliminating idle time and overtime.
  • Calculating meter correction factors from calibration data and inputs information into Flow Computers, PFIS, Synthesis, FlowCal or similar system, as required, for the generation of accurate billing of shippers.
  • Installs, tests, inspects, troubleshoots, maintains and repairs pipeline measurement systems. This includes but is not limited to fixed and portable provers, meters, straightening vanes, strainers, samplers, and meter output devices such as preamps, flow computers and combinators.
  • Utilizes maintenance management software, (SAP) for the assignment and completion of maintenance and repair activities. Provides necessary information for filed measurement equipment for inclusion into SAP.
  • Evaluates new meters for accuracy and to verify original manufacture's specifications before committing to service. Checks temperature and pressure indicating devices associated with measurement systems as needed and Monthly.
  • Works under the direction of the Measurement Supervisor to evaluate the cause of over and shorts of the line segments as well as the assigned facilities and perform first of the month reviews.
  • Witnesses’ calibration of proving facilities and meter systems of other connecting pipeline companies and arranges for outside company representatives to witness calibrations. Schedules and works with outside specialists for the water draw calibration of fixed prover loops and portable provers.
  • Works with the pipeline Technical Supervisors and Measurement Manager to ensure that adequate spare parts, repair materials, meters and totalizers are maintained. Orders parts and repair materials as required.
  • Maintains valid driver’s license for the state of residence.
  • Must pass OQ certification tests required to perform basic job tasks, for example but not inclusive to: - Abnormal Operations, Valve operation, calibrate pressure transmitters, calibrate temperature transmitters, maintain flow meter for leak detection and meter proving for leak detection.
  • Provides regular verbal and written reports regarding the status of work and assists in the planning of both individual jobs and broad-based maintenance programs. Reviews major and time-consuming repairs with appropriate supervision.
  • Use and operates all pertinent PPE and safety equipment when performing duties in potentially hazardous areas. (Respirator, hard hat, approved safety shoes and safety glasses, etc.) Displays workmanship consistent with industry standards and company work practices. Works in accordance with all applicable codes and/or as indicated on engineering drawings and sketches.
  • Make recommendations to engineering regarding changes in equipment based on field inspections or work experience. Uses various test equipment, measuring devices, hand and power tools, machinist tools and gauges.
  • Interprets and works from drawings, plans and specifications relevant to the construction or alternation of measurement equipment or piping systems. Maintains current files of company, vendor drawings and specifications. Prepares as-built and sketches from which permanent engineering drawings can be prepared.
  • The incumbent normally works alone but at times is required to coordinate their work activities with other technicians to make repairs to measurement equipment. May be required to inspect or oversee the work of others, either contract employees or Sun employees in the installation, calibration or maintenance of measurement equipment.
  • As assigned, it assists technicians in other disciplines with routine maintenance, repair and installation. In absence of appropriate craftsman may be required to diagnose problems other than measurement in nature and perform minor repairs, informing appropriate supervision.
  • Subject to twenty-four-hour short-notice emergency call out to restore operations of pipeline facilities system wide. Communicate with other technicians for assistance in effecting repairs when applicable.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in extreme weather and perform heavy physical labor in a safe manner. Responsible for helping maintain safe and healthful working conditions by exercising sound judgement, and to comply with safety regulations and standards.

  • Expected to maintain current knowledge base by attending inside and outside training courses such as vendor presentations and annual International School of Hydrocarbon Measurement (ISHM)
