The MDS Nurse is an LPN or RN who is responsible for the overall supervision, coordination, maintenance and timely completion of the MDS, care plans and medical records for residents. Here are a few of the daily responsibilities of an RN MDS Coordinator: Coordinates, conducts, and completes the MDS, resident care plans and conferences on the computerized system. Assures accuracy and completeness of entire medical record. Assures and monitors that MDSs are completed within HCFA and Medicare guidelines. Ensures MDS electronic submission occurs in accordance with State regulations. Participates in family/resident care plan conferences. Assures effective communication with other shifts and departments as it relates to medical record documentation. Serves as a staff nurse when staffing levels necessitate in order to meet the needs of the residents Responds to emergency calls as necessary. Assures timeliness of physician’s visits. Notifies physicians and family of changes in resident’s condition. Encourages rehabilitative techniques in order to restore residents’ independence. Assists DON in developing and implementing medical records policies and procedures. Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
