About The Position

Handshake is looking for Mathematics PhDs to support AI research through flexible, hourly contract work. This is not a traditional academic or industry research role. You'll draw on your mathematical expertise to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI better understand mathematical reasoning, proof construction, and technical problem-solving. This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity you can take on alongside anything else you have going on. This is a good fit if you're a current or graduated Mathematics PhD with deep expertise in one or more of the following areas: Pure or applied mathematics, analysis, algebra, or topology Probability, statistics, or stochastic processes Discrete mathematics, combinatorics, or number theory Computational or numerical mathematics Mathematical physics or mathematical biology You'll use your mathematical expertise to create domain-relevant questions and review AI-generated responses for accuracy, rigor, and relevance to real-world mathematical research and practice. No prior AI or technical experience is required.

Requirements

  • A current enrollment in or a completed PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field
  • Deep expertise in at least one area of mathematics at the doctoral level
  • Strong written communication skills and attention to detail
  • The ability to work independently and follow written guidelines
  • Must be currently residing in the United States.
