About The Position

The Wethersfield Public Schools partner with the community and families in fostering our students' ongoing education in a safe and engaging learning environment. Wethersfield High School has an opening for a Math Teacher. The candidate will be responsible for the creation and implementation of engaging lessons aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). We are looking for a motivated and dedicated professional with superior collaboration skills to fill this opening. Position: Math Teacher (Long Term Substitute) School: Wethersfield High School Reports To: Math Department Head/Assistant Principal Start Date: December 15 - January 26 (anticipated) Compensation: $160 per day worked Application Date: Posting will remain open until filled Note: The preferred candidate will be expected to be employed through Kelly Services, our partner for substitute employment. Summary of Position: The Math Teacher will foster and promote the independence of each student as a learner, effectively assess student needs and progress, and will plan instruction to achieve desired objectives (including those appropriate for exceptional learners). The teacher will accomplish these objectives through effective communication with students, parents and colleagues, and through the use of engaging techniques and materials in a positive climate.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree is preferred, but not required
  • Position requires the appropriate CT Certification in Mathematics (029)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff and the community
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form
  • Ability to meet deadlines with time constraints
  • Ability to handle and treat information confidentially
  • Ability to plan and organize work schedule and set priorities
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Ability to integrate instructional technology resources into district curriculum
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills to lead teachers, parents, and members of the school community
  • Knowledge of best practice in instruction and assessment
  • Ability to author routine reports, analysis, and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively and succinctly before administrators, staff, parents, and students
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and create lesson plans aligned with the district's curriculum and the state's core educational standards, and deliver instructional activities consistent with the targeted learning
  • Create, organize and utilize learning activities (discussions, projects and assessments) designed to enhance classroom teaching, support optimal learning, and develop new skills
  • Encourage student learning through peer collaboration and productive discussion
  • Adapt math curriculum for individual, small group and remedial instruction to meet student needs
  • Guide students, individually and in groups, in preparing for different types of assessments
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the development and utilization of unit lessons and learning assessments
  • Evaluate student progress and achievement through formal and informal testing, and use the data to drive instruction and intervention
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning
  • Provide on-going feedback to students through the use of formative assessments.
